Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution
Mediation is a well-accepted method for resolving divorces. For most cases, especially those involving property issues, retirement issues, spousal maintenance, child custody, support, visitation and parenting plans, Texas courts will order couples to attempt mediation before bringing a contested case to court.
Mike Gregory has offered divorce mediation services for over 17 years. Mike is devoted to accomplishing divorces successfully for clients and their children. Mediation usually results in less expensive and less contentious divorce proceedings than does litigation. After a recent mediation, a lawyer said, "Mike, you did a masterful job on this mediation."
Because of his skills and success in mediation, judges often appoint Mike Gregory as mediator while attorneys eagerly agree to use him as a mediator.
What Is Divorce Mediation?
Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) method that involves going in front of a lawyer mediator and working through the many aspects of a divorce agreement without going to court. As in collaborative law proceedings, each side is represented by an attorney. Anything said to the mediator is kept strictly confidential; a mediator cannot testify for either side if the mediation fails. When an agreement is reached, the parties and their lawyers sign a Mediation Settlement Agreement, MSA. The MSA cannot be revoked.
